Story 16

January 9, 2025

My name is Gabby De Luna. In 2010, my three-year-old son Xavier attended Precious Lamb. I also had another son named Dennis who was 16 months-old. I was living in one of the best sober living facilities in Long Beach called “Mike Gold’s Sober Living”. That place helped both single mothers and fathers with children. On April 11, 2011 my world fell apart. There was an accident that changed my life with my 16-month-old son. It was a Monday and I was getting ready to cook. This accident happened in sober living on the second floor as my boyfriend at the time was bringing my baby down stairs so he could put him in the high chair. That was the type of mom I was, I always had to make sure my kids were with mom at all times. I had just walked down stairs and asked him to bring my son down, since he had just woken up from his nap. My boyfriend picked up my son from the play pen and while he was walking with Dennis in his arms, he tripped over the Play station cord. He fell right on top of my son. I ran up the stairs as he called my name, but Dennis had already stopped breathing. I tried giving him CPR but there was no pulse. We lived right next to St. Mary’s hospital so I picked my son up and ran to the emergency room. My son didn’t make it. The doctors had me call my loved ones for support and the Precious Lamb teachers and a few local pastors showed up to the hospital. They made sure my other son Xavier and I were going to be okay.

BLESSED 2013

In 2013, I was blessed with a baby boy named Skyler and I was back at sober living when Skyler was 18 months old. He was then enrolled at Precious Lamb from 2015 to 2019. That’s when I started seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. All I wanted to be was a mother again. The Lord renewed my strength. Skyler is 8 years old and I’m a good mother today. I was a broken mother and today I have a purpose. This is my life today. I live a life of faith. I’ve been blessed and I know that the Lord is real because he’s answered my prayers. So a big thank you to Precious Lamb and staff for always showing up when my children and I needed your help and teaching me how to be the mother I am today.

Love, Gabby De Luna
